The glass is heated up to 500-600'c in the furnace and then rapidly cooled to the critical temperature and this creates the correct temperature differential the central layer and the surfaces. Which gives the final desired compression. The tempered glass had a good shock and bending strength which is about 5 times stronger than the anneal glass. The glass will not shatter which is best for the safety uses.
